APS furlough day volunteer project
On Friday, November 13, the APS staff used furlough hours to assemble 100 holiday “care packages” for members of the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Staff members baked more than 600 cookies and donated items ranging from trail mix to Kool Aid, then formed assembly lines to pack the items and write messages in holiday cards. The packages will be sent to service men and women by Words of Comfort, Hope and Promise, a non-profit outreach program supporting troops and their families. The volunteer project was dedicated to the memory of Sgt. Cody Legg, son of APS staff member Bunnie Jacquay. Cody was killed in action in Iraq in June 2008.
