| A: | Sometimes units have unexpected needs and must assign increased teaching loads to lecturers. PPM 230-6 provides units a "grace" period for temporary/ short-term situations. The grace period permits appointments at greater than 50% time for a maximum of two quarters or six months without a search. This grace period refers to cumulative time, not consecutive time. If the appointment continues at greater than 50% time beyond the grace period, the unit is expected to conduct an open recruitment. |
