Faculty Position in Hematology/Oncology. Assistant/Associate Professor, Comparative Pathology, (50% tenure track, UC Davis), Assistant/Associate Professor In Residence, (50% Animal Care Program, UC San Diego).  This appointment in the Departments of Pathology, School of Medicine, UCSD and Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology (PMI), School of Veterinary Medicine, UC Davis will be located at the University of California, Veterinary Medical Center - San Diego (UC VMC-SD), a joint venture of UC Davis, and UCSD.

DVM or equivalent with advanced training in anatomic pathology.  Experience with mouse pathology preferred.  PhD or equivalent postdoc research training required at appointment.  Board certification or training sufficient to qualify for examination in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology.  ACVP board certification preferred.  Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching.  Documented research record or potential to develop an independent research program using contemporary pathology and molecular technologies for the characterization of disease pathogenesis.  Potential and/or demonstrated ability in acquisition of extramural funding.  Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Teaching:  Responsibilities include teaching of graduate students and/or veterinary pathology residents (especially in mouse pathology).  In the Animal Care Program, the responsibilities include necropsy and histopathology services and participation in training of laboratory animal medicine residents in pathology.

Research:  The development of a creative, independent and productive research program in laboratory animal and comparative pathology is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals.  Individual will provide leadership in directing research projects of graduate students.

Service: The incumbent will have a 50% responsibility for the laboratory animal diagnostic services at UCSD.  University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required.  The incumbent will serve as the Department of PMI, UC Davis representative to the UC VMC-SD in San Diego.

University of California San Diego (http://www-pediatrics.ucsd.edu/default.aspx), Rady Children's Hospital San Diego (http://www.chsd.org/), and Children's Specialists San Diego (http://childrensspecialists.com/), are recruiting two BC/BE pediatric hematologist/oncologists to join the existing division of twelve physicians and two nurse practitioners.

The successful applicants will be at mid-career with a strong background in clinical trials. One position will serve as the institutional Principal Investigator for the Children Oncology Group. Responsibilities will include clinical care of hematology/oncology patients, teaching, oversight of the Research Center staff, and the development of clinical trials and translational research. Over 180 new oncology patients are seen annually. There are comprehensive clinics and programs for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, Hemophilia, Sickle Cell Disease, Hemoglobinopathies, Long Term Follow-up of Cancer Survivors, and Neuro-Oncology. There is a well-developed Psychosocial Program, which includes psychologists, social workers, child life specialists, parent liaisons, and chaplains. We are members of the NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCSD, and have an Alliance with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for conducting joint research.

Rady Children's Hospital San Diego is a 248-bed facility that provides comprehensive tertiary and quaternary care for all subspecialties in pediatrics, and serves patients from San Diego, Imperial, and South Riverside Counties. In 2010 a new 279,000 square foot acute care hospital expansion will open, the second floor of which will be exclusively dedicated to Hematology, Oncology, and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation. Academic appointments will be available at the assistant to full professor level, with academic series to be determined based on experience and accomplishments of the successful candidates. THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO, and CHILDREN’S SPECIALISTS OF SAN DIEGO (CSSD) are jointly recruiting a full-time Clinical Service Chief at the level of Associate/Full Professor for the Division of Pediatric Nephrology within the Department of Pediatrics. The position will be primarily based at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. The academic series is to be determined based on background and qualifications of the successful candidate. The hospital is an expanding 220-bed facility which serves as the major regional tertiary care pediatric hospital and is the primary teaching facility for the Department of Pediatrics of the UCSD School of Medicine. Candidates must be Board Certified in Pediatric Nephrology and licensable in the state of California. The ideal candidate will be an experienced clinician with skills in clinical administration. The Clinical Service Chief will report to the Division Chief, Robert Mak MD PhD (romak@ucsd.edu). The UCSD Department of Psychiatry (http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu) is seeking experienced psychiatric candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level for the Directorship of the Department’s primary Outpatient Psychiatry Program. This is a busy clinical program and it is the major site for the training of our PGY3 residents in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric outpatients. The clinic is the largest ambulatory psychiatry program in the region, admitting approximately 2,000 patients annually, and has a much deserved reputation for clinical excellence. Candidates must be Board Certified or Eligible, and already have or can qualify for a medical license in the State of California. A strong scientific track record of peer-reviewed grants and publications is necessary. Experience and demonstrated leadership and administrative skills for overseeing psychiatric clinical programs is preferred. Professorial series and rank will be determined by experience.
