Associate Director for Writing at Sixth College

Sixth College at the University of California, San Diego, is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.  The department seeks a Writing Director / Academic Coordinator who will also serve as Associate Director in the Culture, Art, and Technology program at the college.  Details about the program may be found at http://sixth.ucsd.edu and at http://cat.ucsd.edu.  UCSD is a Research I Institution with a diverse student body.

The Sixth College Writing Director is expected to be an academic leader who, in addition to teaching in the program, contributes to its design and implements the highest standards articulated by current research in composition and rhetoric. The Sixth College Writing Director should have demonstrated skills t collaborate with faculty from many different departments and interdisciplinary programs; recruit, train and supervise teaching assistants; monitor the program’s effectiveness; develop support services; and work collaboratively with senior staff to coordinate the activities of and to set goals for the college as a whole.  Supervision of the program in summer session as well as during the academic year is normally required.

The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. in a field with significant knowledge of the pedagogy of composition, or a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric with significant background in literary studies.  The candidate should have a record of distinguished teaching in composition and experience administering a college writing or comparable program.  Appropriate candidates with demonstrated expertise in scientific or technological writing will also be considered.  Successful candidates will demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC, San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
