Director - San Diego Supercomputer Center
The University of California, San Diego, invites applications for the position of Director of the UC San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC; see http://www.sdsc.edu/). As an organized research unit of UC San Diego, SDSC is a national leader in creating and providing cyberinfrastructure for data-intensive research. SDSC recently doubled its size to 160,000 square feet with a new, energy-efficient building and data center extension, and is a founding member of TeraGrid, the nation's largest open-access scientific discovery infrastructure.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Director is responsible for managing the operation of SDSC (http://research.ucsd.edu/documents/sdscdirjobdescr%200401%20_2_.pdf). The director will hold a full-time academic administrative position as well as a tenured professorial appointment for which a record of scholarly distinction and teaching are required; the appointment will be in an appropriate academic department at UCSD.

Associate Dean, Graduate Medical Education

The School of Medicine, Division of Medical Education of the University of California, San Diego seeks an experienced and innovative physician to provide leadership for the Schools of ACGME accredited programs and to oversee the functions of and operations as the Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education (GME). As Associate Dean for GME, this individual will report to the Vice Dean for Medical Education and the Chief Executive Officer for UCSD Medical Center and will hold a faculty appointment in an academic department of the School of Medicine. Description: Overview

Sixth College, the newest of the six undergraduate colleges at the University of California, San Diego, seeks an outstanding educator to serve as Associate Director for the Practicum. The position will be an Academic Coordinator I. The UCSD college system provides undergraduates with small living and learning communities within the larger research university, and the core curriculum provides the academic and thematic foundation for Sixth College.

The Sixth College Practicum is an upper-division, general education, service-learning requirement. The Practicum reflects the College's commitment to form bridges to communities within and beyond UCSD, to engage students in communal life, and to foster students' ethical obligation to service.   Position Overview

The Associate Director is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and administration of the Practicum program, including program planning, development, implementation, assessment, and strategic vision. This requires working closely with UCSD faculty, UCSD programs, and off-campus partners to identify, develop, and expand Practicum opportunities and with students to help them find or define appropriate projects; working closely with other College units, including Academic Advising and Student Affairs, to integrate the curricular and cocurricular aspects of College life; for assisting in supervising the Academic Programs staff; and for participating in various college and campus-wide events and committees. The Associate Director is also responsible for increasing the visibility and understanding of the program on campus; for helping to formulate and implement the strategic vision of the Sixth College academic programs in general; and for obtaining extramural funding. Depending on the Director's interests and qualifications, there may also be the opportunity to teach up to one course per year in the title of Lecturer. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Academic Programs, who in turn reports to the College Provost. 
  Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities

Required: 
 
  • Ph.D. or M.F.A. with relevant background preferred, M.S. with relevant work experience considered.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well in team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Evidence of creative accomplishment and of ability to inspire creativity in students.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to plan, prioritize and keep multiple projects/tasks moving forward at once.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, students and others from a variety of disciplinary and diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective, creative working relations with community groups.
  Preferred: 
 
  • Ability to help design and implement meaningful assessment systems.
  • Strong digital communication skills and multi-media experience.
  • Experience obtaining extramural funding.

Description: UCSD Extension, http://www.extension.ucsd.edu/ invites applications for the Director of Business Programs (Continuing Educator I), whose duties will include development and management of self-funding continuing education courses and programs serving the needs of San Diego professionals and their employers.
  The Director will oversee existing programs in accounting and finance, facilities and human resource management, environment and sustainability, marketing and advertising, project management, purchasing and supply management, real estate and urban planning, as well as other general business, leadership and management programs. Of equal importance will be the responsibility to track emerging issues and trends in these fields, assess the educational implications for professionals, and collaboratively build new programs to meet these requirements in a variety of formats, including on-line offerings. Other duties include recruiting, selecting and maintaining a large pool of qualified part-time instructors, spearheading promotional efforts, supervising staff, responding to requests for customized programs from corporate or international clients, and creating collaborative programs with campus academic departments and community groups. Experience at a leadership level within a business environment, experience teaching or developing and presenting educational content, established professional networks, and demonstrated management of a successful revenue center are required. The ideal candidate will hold a graduate level degree in a related field.

Position Title: Director, Healthcare Leadership and Community Outreach (Continuing Educator I)

Description: UCSD Extension, http://www.extension.ucsd.edu/ invites applications for the Director of Healthcare Leadership and Community Outreach (Continuing Educator I). The duties of this position will include the direction of educational programs associated with the non-clinical portfolio of UCSD Extension Healthcare continuing education, such as the Healthcare Leadership Program, the Healthcare Information Technology program and the Introduction to US Healthcare course series. Other duties include recruiting students and building awareness and support for programs through collaborative relationships with targeted healthcare groups. Attending local functions and creating workshops or professional events that showcase UC San Diego Extension healthcare offerings will be required as well as recruiting and screening instructors, directing advisory board participation, coaching students and arranging experiential learning opportunities. The Director will be expected to expand the reach of programs regionally and internationally and direct the adaptation of coursework to an online learning environment where appropriate to facilitate expanded reach and increase convenience for working students. In concert with the Office of Advanced Professional Education & Development, the Director will facilitate students' integration and professional involvement in local healthcare associations and participate in Independent Study Projects as needed. Other duties will include: Investigating and developing new programs to expand opportunities for UCSD Extension Healthcare to participate in degree-related coursework, or to enhance the capability of students to gain a degree in partnership with institutions within or outside of San Diego. Developing collaborations with the Community College system in the region, and collaborations with other institutions outside of the region that are seeking to expand the capacity and reach of their nursing or allied health programs. Interacting with hospitals, healthcare systems and clinics throughout the region to understand additional, specific workforce needs. Through this targeted needs assessment, suggesting the development of new UCSD Extension healthcare programs. Investigating prospective grants and participating in writing grants to support these efforts as needed and appropriate. Promoting program outreach to institutions, professional associations, and healthcare-related companies. Developing contracts with those organizations to provide targeted or customized educational offerings.
