SKAGGS SCHOOL OF PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES

Tenured (Associate and Full level) and Tenure-Track (Assistant level) Professorial positions, listed by recruitment job number, that are currently being recruited.

Department: Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Position Title: Associate or Full Professor
Job Number: 5-170-AD
Description:

The University of California, San Diego, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is initiating a program in computational drug design as part of a new growth phase in the development of pharmaceutical sciences (cf: Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty positions at http://pharmacy.ucsd.edu.)  Applications are invited for an exceptional faculty member for a tenured position at the Professor level with expertise in computational chemistry, computer-aided and structure-based drug design, or structural biology with a computational emphasis. This individual will play a lead role in enhancing our drug discovery efforts by complementing the existing strengths in areas of natural products chemistry, neuro- and immunopharmacology, cancer chemotherapy, microbiology and virology, physiology and development, drug metabolism and disposition, proteomics and pharmacogenomics.  State of the art facilities are available in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Building for high field NMR, mass spectrometry, various types of spectroscopy and automated high through-put assays.

Only five years after the first Pharm.D. class was admitted, the SSPPS faculty ranks in the top tier among pharmacy schools in NIH-supported research. UCSD has a superb environment for interdisciplinary research, and strong collaborations exist between the SSPPS and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Department of Pharmacology, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, and Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center, and clinical departments in the School of Medicine. UCSD is also home of the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Opportunities abound for interaction with The Scripps Research Institute, Salk Institute, Burnham Institute, and La Jolla Institute of Allergy and Immunology as well as nearly 400 local pharmaceutical and biotechnology groups.  Outstanding laboratory space is available in the new Pharmaceutical Sciences Building, located within the Health Sciences Center at UCSD. In addition to vigorous pursuit of innovative research programs, successful candidates will team teach in courses for Ph.D., Pharm.D., and M.D. students.

Candidates are expected to have a strong track record of scientific and academic achievements demonstrated by publication record and independent grant funding appropriate for the professorial rank, combined with documented skills in teaching.

Salary:

Salary and appointment level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on published UC pay scales for the Health Sciences.

Closing Date:

Review of applications will begin February 17, 2009 and will continue until the respective positions are filled.
