SUBJECT: 2007/08 CHANCELLOR’S ASSOCIATES FACULTY RECOGNITION AWARDS

I write to invite nominations for the 2007/08 Chancellor’s Associates Faculty Recognition Awards. These awards are given annually to deserving members of the UCSD faculty and consist of a citation and honorarium of $2,500. Presentations of these awards will be made at the Chancellor’s Associates meeting in March 2007.

The categories for nomination are as follows:

Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching

Excellence in Graduate Teaching

Excellence in Research in Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences

Excellence in Research in Science & Engineering

Excellence in Community Service

The nomination form, including the criteria that will be used to evaluate the nominees, is available for downloading on the Academic Affairs website at:

            http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/faculty/awards/chancellorsassociates/default.htm

In preparing the nomination packets, the descriptions of the candidate’s qualifications and accomplishments should be written in language easily understood by a general audience and should augment the candidate's curriculum vitae. A letter of endorsement from the Dean, Provost or Vice Chancellor is required for each nominee. The Letter of Endorsement is enormously useful in the process of comparing nominees, and it does carry a great deal of weight, in conjunction with the application. Note: To find out what types of things most influence the Selection Committee's decision in selecting winners of recognition awards, please reference the Nomination TIPS located on the Chancellor’s Associates Faculty Recognition web page.

An original plus 3 copies of the nomination packets (consisting of the letter of endorsement, the appropriate nomination form, AND a copy of the nominee's c.v.) are due to me (c/o Joyce Tansil, MC 0001) by Friday, November 16, 2007. If you have any questions about this process, please contact Joyce Tansil (x40098, jtansil@ucsd.edu).
