Description:

The University of California, San Diego, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is seeking candidates to join the clinical pharmacy faculty. The successful candidate will have responsibilities in clinical practice, experiential teaching, classroom teaching, and clinical research in the SSPPS, and the Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.

Qualified individuals must have a Pharm.D. degree, have completed a postgraduate residency and/or fellowship training, have experience and demonstrated competence in teaching, a record of creativity and promise for academic advancement, and eligible for licensure in California.  Pediatric experience required.  Pediatric transplant experience preferred.

Joint Appointment General Description

The candidate will hold an appointment in the Pharmacy Department at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego (Web: http://rchsd.org), and will maintain a clinical practice.   In this capacity the candidate will be responsible for working with physicians, physician-scientists, clinical investigators, nurses and other pharmacists to support the mission of the Hospital. 

In the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Web: http://pharmacy.ucsd.edu) the candidate will be responsible for the teaching students, residents and fellows. He/she will have responsibility to lecture in pharmaceutical sciences courses, to develop elective courses as appropriate, and to participate in faculty governance.   The candidate is expected to establish a research program in their area of expertise.

In this capacity the candidate will be responsible for working with physicians, physician-scientists, clinical investigators, nurses and other pharmacists to support the three main missions of the VA in clinical care, research and education.

UCSD is establishing an interdepartmental initiative in medicinal chemistry.  We invite applications at all levels from outstandingly creative chemists with interests in such areas as organic synthesis or the characterization of natural products.  The ideal candidates would be eligible for joint appointment among UCSD units including the new School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  It is planned that this initiative will lead to the hiring of six or more new faculty members over a period of perhaps three years, and that successful early candidates will play a major role in shaping this initiative.  New and renovated space on campus in La Jolla will be available for this initiative.  Opportunities abound for interaction with groups in Health Sciences, Marine Sciences, the General Campus at UCSD in La Jolla, The Scripps Research Institute, the Salk Institute, and with other nearby academic centers.  Major new research campuses being opened near UCSD by Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, and other companies offer additional opportunities for collaboration, as do the dozens of smaller startup companies nearby.
