Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Humanities, the Director is responsible for managing the operation of the Center, planning and implementing programs, fund development, communications, and advocacy of the humanities consistent with the mission and goals of the Center. The mission of the Center is to promote advanced research and interdisciplinary study of the humanities, foster innovative teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and facilitate a diverse and intensified dialogue of related academic, social, and cultural issues. The Center encourages dialogue between humanities and the arts, social sciences, and the sciences and engineering. The competitive candidate will be an innovative scholar with an inclusive vision of the humanities and arts in both the academy and the public sphere.

 

The Director holds a full-time academic administrative position as well as a tenured faculty appointment in an appropriate academic department at UCSD and must qualify for appointment as a tenured professor. The Director must have a record of scholarly distinction, a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary scholarship in the humanities broadly conceived, a record of intellectual leadership and program development, administrative skills, and the ability to raise philanthropic and extramural funding. Department: Theatre and Dance

Description: The candidate will enhance and enrich the playwriting areas of the Theatre and Dance Department and develop coursework in writing for the performing arts. Will teach classes in both the graduate and undergraduate degree programs, with the primary course work in playwriting. Must be able to teach playwriting to all levels and supervise MFA new play workshops and MFA productions. May also teach composition courses such as screenwriting, TV writing, adaptation, and music theatre text. In addition, courses such as dramatic literature or cinema studies could be taught. Work closely with MFA students and supervise MFA teaching assistants for our undergraduate playwriting curricula. Candidate would also supervise MFA plays and the Baldwin New Play Festival each spring.
  Candidate is expected to be active member in the department and on campus, participating in all departmental matters, including development of new initiatives, programs, and ad hoc committees.
