The EBE Section and the Division of Biological Sciences
(http://www-biology.ucsd.edu/) are committed to building a strong program to
meet the scientific and educational challenges of the 21st century. The
section expects to hire as many as six faculty over the next two years. We
currently seek applications from outstanding scientists in the fields of
ecology, evolution, and behavior. Applications from junior candidates are
strongly encouraged although tenured scientists will be considered. Area of
scholarship is open and all fields will be considered, but we are
particularly interested in candidates who's research applies to the
ecological and evolutionary challenges faced by the earth's biota in
response to human alteration of the global environment. Applicants should
demonstrate outstanding records of research achievement, and be able to
attract significant extramural research support. Appointees are expected to
participate fully in departmental affairs and teaching.

Salary will be based on published UC pay scales.

| Description: |
The Section of Molecular Biology at UCSD seeks a faculty
member who will contribute to our developing research strength in the area
of photosynthetic microbiology with a preference for research on the role of
algae in sustainable energy systems. It is anticipated that the position
will be filled as a tenured appointment at the Associate or Full Professor
level, but tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level will be
considered for an exceptionally strong candidate. Applications are invited
from candidates who work with eukaryotic or prokaryotic photosynthetic
microbial systems in areas relevant to sustainable energy including biofuels.
The candidate should have a strong record in fundamental biological or
biochemical research as well as an interest in applications of algae for
biofuel production.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent,
postdoctoral experience, and a distinguished record of research
accomplishment. In addition to performing outstanding research, the
successful candidate will participate in undergraduate and graduate
education. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience. This position in
algal fuels is part of a major cluster hire effort in environmental
sustainability, and constitutes one of several positions being recruited by
six campus departments.
