Description:

The Department of Bioengineering in the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego is inviting applications for one or more TENURE-TRACK or TENURED FACULTY POSITIONS at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor levels. Successful applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Bioengineering and to establish a vigorous program of high-quality federally funded bioengineering research, particularly research that focuses on genome-scale or systems approaches to biological complexity, integration across multiple scales from molecule to organism, and/or applications relevant to regenerative medicine.

  Exceptional candidates in other areas may also be given consideration. The Jacobs School of Engineering enjoys close collaborations with the UCSD School of Medicine and the Divisions of Biological and Physical Sciences. Qualified individuals may be eligible for joint appointments. The level of appointment will be based on experience and qualifications. 
Salary: Salary will be based on published UC pay scales.

The UCSD Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) seeks to fill multiple faculty positions at tenured or tenure-track positions. CSE is home to over 50 faculty and 300 graduate students who together span a range of research areas in computer science, computer engineering and bioinformatics. The Department of NanoEngineering (http://nanoengineering.ucsd.edu) invites applications for tenuretrack or tenured faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Candidates are expected to carry out forefront research and teach classes related to NanoEngineering in the following technical fields.

  (1) The intersection of Nano-Science and Engineering and the Biological Sciences. Examples include but are not limited to the use of nanostructured materials for detection and manipulation of biomolecules in living systems, the engineering of biological systems for creation of unique 2-D or 3-D nanostructures, and stu dies of nano-device/soft matter interface science. Applications toward nano-biotechnologies, such as cellular and molecular imaging and therapeutics are particularly encouraged.
  (2) The intersection of Nano-Science and Engineering with implications for Energy Technologies. Many of the fundamental length scales involved in energy conversion, transmission, and storage occur at the nanoscales. Therefore, NanoEngineering provides the opportunity to discover and develop new processes and systems to cost-effectively convert, store, and transmit energy that can lead to the generation of renewable energy, can significantly reduce the dependence on fossil energy or reduce the atmospheric burden of greenhouse gases.
  (3) Molecular and Nanostructured Materials. At the core of Nanotechnology is nanostructured materials, and development of new processes, understanding, characterization, and modeling of molecular and nanoscale materials is sought.
  (4) Computational Methods in Nanotechnology. Due to scale issues, computational methods have enormous potential to impact fundamental Nano-Science, Nano-Engineering and Nano-technology applications.
  A demonstrated track record in the application of computational approaches to nanoscale science or engineering is strongly preferred. However, excellent candidates in all areas of nanoscale engineering will be seriously considered.

Exceptional candidates in all other areas will be given serious consideration. Innovation, systems-oriented engineering, and potential for multi-disciplinary research are of importance. The successful candidates are expected to develop pioneering research and a strong externally funded research program.

 

The Department of Structural Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in structural engineering and emphasizes cross-disciplinary research in civil, aerospace, mechanical, and marine structures. Current research activities include earthquake engineering, manufacturing of large-scale composite structures, computational mechanics, sports engineering, geomechanics and geotechnical earthquake engineering, large-scale experimental simulation of natural and manmade hazards , marine hydrodynamics and wave-structure interaction, structural reliability and risk engineering, NDE and health monitoring, information technology and intelligent systems, advanced material structural rehabilitation, and innovative nano-materials.

 

Major large-scale experimentation resources are available at the Structural Engineering UCSD Powell Laboratory and the new Englekirk Field Station. Synergy is facilitated through collaborative efforts with Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical and Computer Science, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, the San Diego Supercomputing Center , and the Los Alamos National Labs.

 

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate or equivalent degree, with high-quality research and teaching potential.

Salary:

Level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications within the UC published pay scales.
