Department: Cancer Center

Description: The Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a faculty leader for its Cancer Prevention and Control (CP&C) Program (see http://cancer.ucsd.edu). The Comprehensive Cancer Center is part of the highly ranked UCSD School of Medicine.

The position includes a faculty appointment with tenure in an appropriate Department in the School of Medicine. The CP&C program has 15 peer-review-funded principal investigators. The future leader will be expected to be able to develop successful collaborations with cancer center members from other Cancer Center programs. The CP&C program houses the large WHEL biological specimens repository.

The Moores UCSD Cancer Center is a matrix center. This faculty position will be located in the department within the School of Medicine department that best suits the skills of the successful applicant. The position will be housed in the new Moores Cancer Center building within the 23,000 square feet assigned to population science research. This includes a Clinical Research facility and a Healing Foods kitchen which will be available for use of the successful candidate.

The position will require a doctorate in a relevant research field and a track record of grant support with quality peer reviewed publications as well as other professional recognition of accomplishment. Good collaboration skills, teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to coordinate a research program will be an advantage.

Description: FACULTY POSITION IN PROTEOMICS / MASS SPECTOMETRY- The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego (http://medicine.ucsd.edu/Pathology) seeks a Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry with significant experience in the use of mass spectometry to analyze complex protein solutions. Appointment is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and direct a state-of-the art mass spectrometry/proteomics facility and to have a strong understanding of innovative technology development in this area. Working in collaboration with biologists and biochemists in the Department of Pathology, the new appointee will build a research program in biomarker discovery. This team effort will focus on cancer, neurodegeneration, infectious diseases, and cardiovascular sciences. At least three years of post-doctoral experience, strong area-specific publications, an understanding of the use of bioinformatics in the analysis of proteomics data, outstanding communication skills, and an ability to collaborate are required.
Salary: Salary will be consistent with established UCSD pay scales.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine (http://www.pediatrics.ucsd.edu) in conjunction with the UCSD Center for Human Genetics and Genomics invites applications for the position of the Division Chief of Genetics. This will be a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Expanding and improving existing genetics and genomics efforts throughout the School of Medicine and the UCSD general campus has recently been identified as a major area of growth, and this position is a key component of this overall goal. The individual recruited to the Division Chief position will be expected to lead a vigorous research program in an area of contemporary human genetics and genomics and to commit no more than 20% time to the clinical and teaching mission of the Department and Rady Children’s Hospital. In addition, this individual will have opportunities to play a significant leadership role in strengthening genetics and genomics in the Medical School as a whole, including recruitment of junior faculty members. Clinical training in pediatrics is required. Space will be provided within the new Center for Human Genetics and Genomics or other appropriate sites within the UCSD Health Sciences campus.

The successful candidate for the director position should possess the qualifications for appointment at Associate Professor or Professor in the tenured series within the University of California. Other appointments will most likely be at the Assistant Professor level (tenure-track). The merger of the RCHSD, UCSD Pediatrics, and Children's Specialists of San Diego in 2001 has created an exceptional pediatric hematology/oncology partnership. This 248-bed and expanding RCHSD facility serves as a major regional tertiary care hospital for children and is the major teaching facility for the Department of Pediatrics of the UCSD School of Medicine. Candidates must be Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and licensed or licensable to practice medicine in the State of California. Appointments will require demonstrated leadership capabilities, proven research accomplishment and success in extramural funding, and excellent skills in clinical care and teaching.
