Graduate Student Workshop Pilot Program

Information and Guidelines

The Sr. Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs and the Chancellor expect to be able to fund up to three workshops annually.  Funding will be provided on a competitive proposal basis to permit the attendance of about 20-25 non-UCSD graduate student attendees, paying for their travel and accommodations.  We expect the cost to be about $25K per event.

 The workshops should be based on a scholarly topic proposed by General Campus faculty from one department, a group of departments, or an interdepartmental program. The structure, timing, and nature of the event will be left to the faculty submitting the proposal.  Some programs may wish to include a mixture of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and this will be acceptable provided that graduate students represent at least 50% of the invitees.

Proposals should be three to five pages and include:

(1) a discussion of the proposed topic, its importance in the field, and the relevant expertise of UCSD faculty who would be involved;

(2) a proposed time and organizational structure for the event;

(3) a strategy to bring a representative group of top students from a diverse set of institutions; and

(4) a proposed budget.
