| Barbara A. Sawrey is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education, as well as a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Baldwin-Wallace College, her master’s degree in chemistry from SDSU, and her Ph.D. in physical inorganic chemistry jointly from UCSD and SDSU. She joined the faculty at UCSD in 1984. She served as the Vice Chair for Chemistry & Biochemistry from 1994 to 2007. In 2001-02 she served as Acting Provost of Revelle College, and in 2002-04 she was chair of the University of California’s Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools. She has received numerous teaching awards, including the Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award, the UCSD Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award, and the American Chemical Society’s Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences. Her research work is in the field of chemistry education. In her role as AVC-UE, she works together with the undergraduate colleges and academic departments and programs for the implementation of initiatives and programs to improve and expand undergraduate education at UCSD. | |
