Introducing UExplore, a new
staff enrichment program (7-16-08)
UExplore
is a nine-month program, sponsored by the Office of the SVCAA, designed for
early-career and entry-level Academic Affairs employees. The mission of
UExplore is to assist participants in identifying realistic and appropriate
professional development goals. providing them with the tools to make educated decisions
regarding their careers.
UExplore hopes to
accomplish this goal through a series of half-day seminars that
feature:
- Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality sorter assessments and reviews
- Overviews of various UC San Diego career fields
- Career panels spotlighting professional experts
- Career enrichment presentations focused on goal setting, skills assessment,
listening and communication, and career planning
- Self-reflective activities and exercises to create a professional portfolio

Survey (7-11-08)
Results for the Academic Affairs VC area and the campus overall are now
available
New START Program Now Available (6-20-08)
In order to help UC cope with anticipated budget cuts, the University is
implementing a new Staff and Academic Reduction in Time (START) Program, a
temporary voluntary time reduction program, to achieve salary savings.
Exemplary Staff Employee of the Year Nominee Ceremony (7-1-08)
The Exemplary Staff Employee of the Year Awards Program recognizes career
employees in professional and support staff categories who demonstrate exemplary
service or contributions to UCSD and SD Community. Academic Affairs was pleased
to recognize its 40 nominees in a ceremony held at
Eucalyptus Point Conference Center on Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Annual Statements for UCRP and CAP Available Online
(4-15-08)
Employees with a UC Retirement Plan (UCRP) balance and/or the Capital
Accumulation Provision (CAP) balance can now view annual statements on At Your
Service Online (AYSO).
Marjorie Hardy Receives 2007 Betsy Faught Award (2-28-08)
Congratulations to Marjorie Hardy, Business Officer of the department of
Chemistry and Bicohemistry, who has been named the recipient of the 2008 Betsy
Faught Award. The Award recognizes excellence and outstanding achievement in the
management of General Campus academic units, and honors the memory of Betsy
Faught, an exceptional department manager who adeptly and skillfully managed an
academic program at UCSD for more than twenty years. Marjorie was honored at a
special ABA recognition ceremony on April 16, 2008.

UCRP Members to Receive Retirement Update [2-19-08]
In February 2008, active UCRP members will receive a Personalized Retirement
Update and Readiness Guide similar to the one they received last year. The
Update will: Project estimated income and expenses in retirement, Show UCRP,
CAP, DC Plan, 403(b) Plan, and 457(b) Plan estimates, all in one place,
Demonstrate the effect of increasing contributions to 403(b)/457(b) Plans, and
Compare your current investment mix to various sample investment allocations,
ranging from conservative to aggressive growth.
