2000 Academic Affairs Recipient
The 2000 SVCAA Recognition Award will be presented to the San Diego Supercomputer Center Diversity Leadership
Committee at a ceremony on Thursday, November 30 from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. in Price Center
Ballroom B. The SDSC has put together a great amount of effort and materials related
to outreach and diversity including:
- Creation of a SDSC Diversity
Committee and appointment of a SDSC Diversity Officers (D. Franklin and A.
Redelfs).
- Targeted recruitment and advertising with special job postings on the
SDSC Web Site under Jobs.
- Marketing efforts that are more inclusive of people of color and women.
The Web site reflects diversity in its photos and format.
- Education and Outreach Efforts
- Invitations to community and professional associations for minorities to
host meetings at SDSC with SDSC speakers or feature SDSC articles in their newsletters
- Participation in CAMP (California
Alliance for Minority Participation) to bring in students of color for summer research
projects
- Summer student interns note article featuring a high school
student spending her summer at SDSC
- Provision of materials to HR for community job fairs
- Creation of SDSC EO/AA/Diversity
Action Plan
- Employee training on such topics as Sexual Harassment Policy and
Prevention (Summer 2000) and Affirmative Action (March 2001)
- Off Site Retreat for Senior SDSC P.I.s and Administrators on
various HR topics including: diversity, supervisor training, performance management,
successful selection, work leader training and intro to MSAP (January 2001)
- Support from Top Management and frequent meetings with the SDSC Director
