University of California, San Diego -The department of Sociology at UC San Diego (http://sociology.ucsd.edu/) invites applications for the newly endowed Daniel Yankelovich Chair in Social Thought beginning July 1, 2008. The substantive areas of the chair-holder's research will be open. However, the holder of the Yankelovich chair should be a senior scholar whose research and teaching clearly demonstrates the ability to transcend the constraints of their discipline in understanding important issues and problems; the ability to place their research and thinking in the larger context of society; and the ability to communicate cogently and clearly, with a view to exercising influence in both the academy and the world beyond the academy.
