There are six Undergraduate Colleges at UCSD. Each college maintains its own set of General Education requirements and in combination with the departmental major requirements provides for undergraduate education at UCSD.  By combining the College structure with the Divisions and Schools, students receive the advantages of attending a major research university while enjoying the benefits of traditional colleges.

Within the University of California there are a number of academic units that provide institutional support for specialized research conducted by faculty, research staff, and students. Known as Organized Research Units (ORUs), these institutes, centers, laboratories, and projects are generally interdisciplinary in nature and may extend beyond the boundaries of individual campuses of the university.
