The Academic Senate Committee on Educational Policy (CEP) contacts the program during the Spring Quarter preceding the academic year of review.
Programs are reviewed on a 7 to 8-year cycle.
In collaboration with CEP the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor Undergraduate Education (AVCUE) collects data and assesses evidence.
This data is delivered to the program along with guidelines for writing the self study.
The program self study covers all aspects of curriculum and instruction, operations, delivery of the curriculum, and responses to previous reviews.
The program also updates their Learning Outcomes and submits additional evidence data.
The committee is comprised of three members:
The committee visits the program and conducts interviews with faculty, staff, TAs, lecturers, and undergraduate majors and minors.
An Exit Interview includes the Chancellor, Chief Diversity Officer, Divisional Dean and Academic Affairs.
With input from the program under review and the relevant Divisional Dean, CEP considers the Review Committee Report and drafts a Review Summary.
At this time CEP sets the timeframe for a follow-up discussion (1-2 years).
The AVCUE meets with the program and the relevant Divisional Dean to discuss recommendations included in the Review Summary including resource needs.
The Review Committee Chair revisits the program and evaluates their responses to the CEP Review Summary.
With the follow-up report CEP either requests additional action or concludes the current review.
As part of the continuing, critical analyses of academic programs and student learning at UC San Diego the Academic Senate performs scheduled program reviews to ensure superior educational quality throughout the campus.
The Senate's Committee on Educational Policy (CEP) is responsible for conducting these periodic reviews, which cover all undergraduate academic programs. The Associate Vice Chancellor-Undergraduate Education (AVCUE) works with CEP to facilitate undergraduate program reviews, in a manner analogous to the relationship between the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Council for graduate program reviews.
All ongoing reviews as well as dates for future reviews are viewable through this site. To the left are menus that allow you to select reviews by academic year or by program type.
