Regents Scholar Research Initiative (RSRI)

The Regents Scholars Research Initiative (RSRI) aims to provide more early opportunities for research experiences to talented undergraduates. The initiative features a 1-unit, independent study research course designed for incoming Regents Scholars. Administered as a joint venture of the Offices of Research Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs, the RSRI utilizes the course number 99H to distinguish the RSRI courses from other 99 independent study courses.

Freshman Regents Scholars are paired with faculty and departments based on a polling of their research interests by the RSRI office. This information is forwarded to college and department advisors to help advise students with questions about enrollment procedures.

Students are to complete a "UC San Diego Application for Enrollment - Regents Scholar Research Initiative (RSRI) Courses 99H" form, and acquire the appropriate signatures and department stamps for enrollment. Students are encouraged to complete their first RSRI enrollment by the first week of Fall Quarter.

As of Tuesday, September 18, 2018, students can submit special studies applications for the Winter 2019 quarter using EASy. Please verify with the department that they are utilizing this new system before initiating your request.

Please use the above form until your department transitions to EASy enrollment.
